Berke Ozcelik – Case Study

Employer: Cargill PLC
Apprenticeship: Electrical & Instrumentation Apprentice

I chose to apply for the Level 3 Electrical and Instrumentation Apprenticeship at Cargill because of my significant interest in the subject of electrical engineering. The potential to gain hands-on experience and collaborate with experienced professionals at a reputed organisation like Cargill caught my interest. Throughout my time as an Apprentice, I have built a strong foundation in electrical engineering ideas and I am eager to put this knowledge to use in a practical situation.

My typical day in the early stages of my Apprenticeship consists of shadowing my mentor and closely observing their day-to-day activities. This gives me significant insight into the responsibilities and abilities required of an Electrical Instrumentation Technician at Cargill. As I advance, I have the ability to actively participate in work while being supervised by more experienced colleagues.

Our normal jobs include a variety of actions that are essential to the profession, such as problem resolution, calibrations and periodic maintenance. I’ve worked on electrical and instrumentation difficulties, contributed to calibration processes and participated in scheduled maintenance activities. These hands-on experiences have enabled me to apply theoretical information from my academic courses to real-world settings.

The hands-on element of the work is what I value most about my role. It is extremely satisfying to be able to apply theoretical knowledge gained via academic courses to real-world problems. I enjoy troubleshooting and problem solving, especially when it leads to the identification and resolution of electrical and instrumentation issues.

Furthermore, the chance to collaborate closely with experienced professionals, such as my mentor and coworkers, has been essential. Their advice and knowledge has not only accelerated my learning but also enabled me to contribute effectively to the team’s objectives. The collaborative character of the workplace creates camaraderie and shared accomplishment.

Throughout my Apprenticeship, I am fortunate to get tremendous support from both my company, Cargill, and STEGTA. Cargill has created a caring learning atmosphere in which I have been able to shadow seasoned professionals, work on real-world projects, and receive direct feedback from my mentor and coworkers. The practical experience has been extremely beneficial in turning theoretical knowledge into practical skills.

STEGTA’s assistance has been critical in monitoring and facilitating my growth. They have been proactive in assessing my learning needs, delivering relevant training modules and ensuring that I have the tools I need to complete the apprenticeship programme requirements. Regular check-ins and progress reviews have helped me keep on track and overcome any obstacles that have arisen.

My employer’s and STEGTA’s combined support have resulted in a well-rounded learning experience that combines practical application with formal instruction. This collaborative approach has not only improved my technical skills, but it has also created a positive and encouraging environment for professional development.

I am enthusiastic to continue my educational path after completing my Level 3 Apprenticeship by pursuing a Higher National Certificate (HNC) and Higher National Diploma (HND). I believe that acquiring these qualifications will expand my knowledge and skills in electrical and instrumentation engineering.

The HNC and HND programmes are the next logical step in my professional development, providing a more comprehensive and specialised grasp of the topic. I’m especially looking forward to going further into advanced issues and acquiring a broader view on the industry.

I would strongly advise anyone thinking about applying for an Engineering Apprenticeship to do so. An Apprenticeship provides vital hands-on experience and practical learning. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and real-world application.

Being able to shadow professionals, work on actual projects, and apply classroom learning to practical settings has advanced my knowledge of engineering principles in my experience. Mentorship and assistance from knowledgeable colleagues have been extremely beneficial to my development.

Additionally, an Apprenticeship allows you to get experience in your chosen area while receiving a qualification. A combination of on-the-job experience and formal training is an effective strategy to launch your career. It not only provides you with the necessary technical skills for the sector, but it also builds a professional network that will be important throughout your career.
