Chloe Rimmer – Awarded for outstanding performance in The STEGTA Training Centre for the Level 2 Wiring & Testing Electrical Equipment & Circuits Unit.

Chloe said: “I chose a career in engineering because I wanted something that combined problem solving and hands on work. I’ve always enjoyed taking things apart and building things but didn’t realise I could make a career out of it. now I get to do this on a daily basis!

I have received great support from STEGTA and Luxfer during my Apprenticeship. I feel I can go to them with any needs, requirements or questions and be met with someone who wants me to succeed.

I really enjoy being able to see the end result of my work. Whether it’s taking something that is broken and getting it back up and running or making something completely new, I am there to see what my work has accomplished and take great pride in a job well done.

When I have completed my Apprenticeship, I would like to continue with further education and obtain a HNC, HND and eventually a Degree. The great thing about engineering is that it is ever improving and evolving so there is no telling on when I will stop trying to gain further education.”

Thomas Anslow – Awarded for outstanding Performance in Engineering Maintenance

Thomas said: “I had initially chosen to pursue a career in engineering because I enjoy fixing and taking apart machinery and I have an interest in electrical circuits and using them to create control loops. I would not have been able to win my award without the constant support of my employer and STEGTA as they have both helped me to push myself beyond expectations. My favourite part of my current role is the diverse range of tasks I am asked to do on a daily basis. These tasks could be anything from calibrating equipment onsite to stripping and fixing various pumps and motors. My biggest project during my time here would be the level switches that I have fitted to the site boiler’s hotwell tank, as this has required me to use both my electrical and mechanical skills. In the future, once I have finished my apprenticeship, I would like to complete my HND and eventually finish a degree in engineering and become a chartered engineer.”

Lee Kania – Awarded for Apprenticeship Mentoring Support

Lee said: “I was very surprised to hear from STEGTA that I had won an Excellence Award for Apprenticeship Mentoring here at Luxfer MEL Technologies.

The support of apprentices is provided by the whole engineering team and is seen as an essential part of their development. The collaboration we have with the staff at STEGTA, along with the dedicated commitment shown by all of our engineering apprentices, is already providing a valuable return to our business. The programme provided by STEGTA, including Mentor Training delivered on our site at the start of our apprenticeship scheme, has ensured a structured approach to the development of our upcoming engineering talent.

In adopting a rotation system through the various engineering departments, our apprentices have been provided with exposure to different disciplines and skills. The blend of practical and academic learning has proved to be very beneficial, with recent recognition for Thomas Anslow and Chloe Rimmer who are two members of our second cohort of apprentices. The engineering management team are also learning throughout the process, especially as our first cohort of apprentices are reaching their end point assessment.

It has been very rewarding for all of us to see the team grow organically and witness the effective contributions made to our department. We are looking forward to welcoming another cohort of apprentices in the future.”
